Spotlight is rather brain dead on system resource usage during initial indexing. Mac OS X's threading peformance sucks and Spotlight tries to overload the system with more threads than the kernel can handle. Tiger has a new preference pane in System Prefs for Spotlight like this one: http://astcomm.net/~chris/temp/Spotlight.png Uncheck all the boxes as soon as you get logged in to stop Spotlight's indexing. Then check one thing at at a time in the list and let Spotlight index it. That'll keep it under control until it gets everything indexed. There's a reason Spotlight is disabled by default on Tiger Server. -- Chris ------------------------- PGP Key: http://astcomm.net/~chris/PGP_Public_Key/ -------------------------
