Of course it is !

If you want to burn double layered DVD's, you have to buy a double 
layer external burner, or an internal one (though I don't know if there 
are some for the laptops yet).
I didn't find a firmware update to change the UJ-816 from single layer 
to double layer, but maybe there'll be one, if the operation is 
possible.
