You can get better battery time (a little) by resetting the PowerManagement 
Unit. It varies by computer model.

Also, to reset video ram. Shutdown the computer, restart holding down 
command-option-o-f until you see a command line interface.
Type "reset-nvram" (hit return), type "reset-all" (hit return and dont type 
the quotes). That restarts the computer, resets video ram. You can also 
follow that with immediately resetting pram by holding down 
command-option-p-r and let the computer restart three times then let go.
You need to then change various system preferences like date and time, and 
startup disk. Sometimes this fixes "odd problems" but it is not used as much 
as it was under OS 9.
