while not as secure, as the pwds can be cracked. you could very easily archive all your data in a 0 compression password protected zip file. cross platform, and pretty much anybody has zip. you can add files and remove them as well. another somewhat simple solution would be to install ntfs(if it's not already there) support on your mac, and password protect the partition. there are also several utilities for data encryption that you could keep a pc ver and a carbon ver on the drive, for file by file encryption and decryption. many many choices. good luck! -Jason Economou Carbotron Composites On Feb 18, 2005, at 4:31 PM, Dan K wrote: An encrypted disk image is a very practical solution, but I doubt an image created with Disk Utility would be cross-platform. Are PGP disk images cross-platform-mountable? If so, you'd probably want to initialize the USB drive, and create the disk image on a PC, as it's easier for Macs to deal with Windows, than the other way 'round. Also, mounting an image requires a 'driver', how big a PITA is that on a PC? On a Mac (if using Disk Copy/Utility) that capability is built-in, not so on a Wintel box. dan k ................................. http://macdan.n3.net/ carracho://dankephoto.dhs.org:9700 hotline://dankephoto.dhs.org:9500 ................................. _______________________________________________ Titanium mailing list Titanium at listserver.themacintoshguy.com http://listserver.themacintoshguy.com/mailman/listinfo/titanium
