[Ti] difference in way OSX shuffles desktop backgrounds

Hello,

I have a TiBook and an iMac G5, both running 10.3.7.  Both machines have the
"change picture every xxxxx [timeframe]" option activated in the Desktop &
Screen Saver preference pane.

What's interesting is that when the TiBook (400 mHz) changes pictures, there
is no transition - it just changes.  When the iMac G5 changes backgrounds,
there is a soft fade effect between them.  There is (as far as I can tell)
no additional option for making this so.

Why does the iMac have this nice fading transition but the TiBook does not?
Is this an adjustment by the system for the different video componentry?
