Jeff - whatever the status of your hard drive, you always need a backup of your hard drive, because it can fail suddenly, or the Ti-book can be damaged or stolen.... Now that you have some indication (SMART report and performance deterioration) that there could indeed be a hard disk issue, a regular backup is critical. My suggestion would be (finances permittting) to upgrade your hard drive to a new, larger, faster one, very soon. It will seem like you have a new Powerbook. The soooner the better.
