chris thanks for those in-depth explanations. while i can see your point technically, this still doesn't explain why in 3 years (34 months to be exact) our powerbooks have gone from 1ghz to 1.67 my (un-educated) opinion is that, yes, it comes down to a marketing decision. apple is/was too dependant on ibm for their chips, representing only 2% (?) of their sales. in that sense, i am happy apple had a plan B, just in case… the future? i hope that, because os x is better than windows, our mac intels will run faster than the "other" intels, and/or apple will continue using ppc in some of their computers. my two cents alexandre :: 17" 1.5ghz powerbook / 1.5gb / 80gb / X.4.3 ::
