Daniel, My daughter's Ti 800 running 10.2.8 developed a similar problem where she was unable to open any Word files. A message "you do not have administrator privileges", or something like that, would appear each time. BIG problem for a college girl. I took the machine with me, tried all the known tricks, scanned (Virex) for viruses, used TechTool Pro...nada! I then tried upgrading to Panther without a clean install...still no go. Had to do a CLEAN INSTALL (but did save her files) of Panther, update it to 10.3.9, reinstall MS Word and only then did everything work properly.
