Quick backstory... I have a Ti 550mhz pre-Combo DVD/CD-R. Lately my PMU has been acting flaky. 60 gig HD, 7200 RPM, installed a few years ago. Running Tiger. I was using it today, and my battery started blinking "one" (the LED status indicators). Anyhow, it froze while I was browsing the internet. I tried all key combinations - no luck. I restart, it crashes at the grey apple screen. Force shut down with power button. I reset my PMU. Next, I go to restart, see my wallpaper, then the usual "Your date is blah blah blah..." Then I see black type (ie, single user mode) overlaid on the wallpaper, with the last line saying something about waiting for an external debugger. I shut the machine down immediately - the keyboard wasn't responding. At this point, should I yank the HD, put it in an external enclosure, and dump my data onto another HD? Should I try booting again? The HD sounds fine, no clicking. No scratching. Thanks! John
