I did a clean install. "Erase and install" because I did not have lots
of space left and wanted a nice fresh install.
Specs is not a problem, 512MB RAM

I am also starting to suspect the DVD media, but when the installer
verify the DVD, it does not report any problems and I have done it a few
times.

Funny thing is that now the installer has gone past its normal hangup
point. It is installing additional languages now.

The main difference between this install and the previous one is that
the machine was off over night, so it is cool and this time I just went
with all the defaults. The previous times I deselected most languages
and printer drivers.

Maybe it will go through now...

PS: Nope, it failed while installing Mail. cpio error, bad file
format. :-(
