[X-Apps] TextEdit won't launch

I tried Tom K.'s suggestion to log in as different user, and got same 
result - TextEdit still didn't work - so concluded it was corrupted - 
got pacifist as you suggested, pulled TextEdit off the install CD and 
VOILA - it works. Thanks to all for suggestions.
