Other Macs don't, and some (e.g., original G4) don't work at all with cable select (cf. doc no. 31292). (Cable select is a feature that simplifies configuration of an ATA or ATAPI drive. When it's enabled, the device is forced to set its ID as either master or slave based upon its position on the ATA/ATAPI cable. But, in order to work, the Mac's ATA controller, the cables, and the drive must be compatible with cable select.) f
