Oh? Does not simply setting the default email app via Apple's own  
pref setting do this same thing?

I don't follow what you're saying. 'the calendar list displays  
nothing..... and the calendars appear on the Calendar list'  ???

Drag it to the size you want, close it and then reopen

Oh? Definitely not normal behavior, I'm guessing that the after  
market 'adjustment tool' that you used has messed things up.

Worst case, Archive and Install.  Before that I would try hunting  
down every vestige of this after market bit of nastiness that you  
installed and get rid of it.
