My favorite monitors with the best price/performance is Planar. Many of 
their models support *both* VGA (analog) and DVI (digital) connections 
(as do some models from other companies). They have two ports, and you 
can even use the same monitor on two computers, and switch back and 
forth.

My 1280x1024 flat panel cost less than $500 from Dell.com.
