freeze up

I am using the Apple Mail email system. I was sent an email I can't 
delete. Each time I try the system freezes up. The color wheel never 
stops. The only way I can get out is to go to the finder in the dock, 
punch "force quit"-mail, and then begin all over. I can retrieve all of 
the other mail, but if I try to delete that one email, the system 
freezes again. How can I delete that frozen email. Using 10,2 on iMac.
