Are you sure?

Open up  Mail Preferences in the Mail Finder Bar
Click on Accounts
Highlight your account listing
Click on Edit
On the pop up Menue , check that the proper syntax/info is entered in 
Outgoing Mail Server
( smtp.(your ISP server name). (net or com ) )
