[X Newbies] Interesting Mail behavior

Yep. I had exactly the same problem and solved it the same way you did.
I suspect it had something to do with either the 10.2.6 update (I used
the combo version) or a recent period when the Apple servers were down
for a short period, although I'm just guessing. John
