I'm not sure I follow this. My sys and apps are on a 10GB partition, 
and I have 6GB free... -- and I don't see what it has to do with 
sharing.

But you know your own system better. CCC has already been suggested. 
You can always use ditto -- if you don't have CLI hang-ups --, 
Retrospect's Duplicate option (you are using a back-up utility, aren't 
you?), or a sync utility, such as Synchronize! Pro.
