If you control-click (or right-click with a multi-button mouse) anywhere on the underlined word, you'll get a pop-up menu. At the top of the menu will be any suggestions the spell checker has for that word, along with options to either learn or ignore that spelling. As an aside, another tool you might find handy is a Services menu friendly thesaurus which can also take guesses at spelling. There are many good ones to pick from, Nisus Thesaurus is I think a really elegant version: <http://www.nisus.com/Thesaurus/> How it works in the context of Mail (and many other apps) is you highlight a word, hit the keyboard shortcut for Nisus Thesaurus or choose it from the Services menu, and you have more info on that word than you ever wanted.
