Graphic converter is a wonderful shareware program that Apple has 
bundled with it's system of late. And, yes, you can use it to edit 
photos. As I recall, you can get a full version of the manual in PDF 
format for $10.
Don't remember where else there is 'help' for it, but I do recall 
seeing it somewhere.
