Anti-Virus

Hi all,

I have started to work closely with a group of PC users who reside in a
University, which must be one of the best virus propagation mechanisms
around despite the admins best efforts.  FWIW last September the whole
Uni was taken down with one of the worms doing the rounds.  

I know that I am not affected by any of these but I can (I think) be a
carrier.  Wanting to play nice I thought it might be useful to purchase
AV software, which for OSX means Intego or Norton.

Has anyone used either of these and how effective are they? 
Recommendations/suggestions anyone?
