And thank you for ever so gently pointing out a major flaw in my advice.

One should regard backup as the first, last and most important tool 
in your kit. Backup often and to different media in different places 
if possible. Then you can afford to follow *any* potentially 
bone-headed advice that is offered on a list <g>.
