Wep40 is WEP, 40 bit encryption. Frankly, that is a prime example of why tech support really should not be outsourced overseas. The magic characters they are talking about: Preface the key with a $ symbol, or enclose the key in double quotes ("). Not exactly worth the time to make a call to AppleCare. I'll leave complaints about his spelling and grammar as an exercise for the reader. -- Scott On Oct 23, 2005, at 9:02 PM, J wrote: > WEP 40 ??? > WPA2 ????? > > Just guessing here > > > On Oct 23, 2005, at 11:51 PM, Thomas McDermott Jr wrote: > > >> This is the reply I got from linksys: >> >> Ryan F.(14014): Regarding this concern about MAC wirelessly >> connecting to the security enabled router - not only will you just >> put the key whether WEP or WPA to it but there is a set of >> characters that MAC uses before the WEP/WPA key. >> >> Ryan F.(14014): You need to call MAC tech support to guide to the >> process of entering the characters plus the WEP/WPA key. >> >> What sort of characters are they talking about? >> >> Tom >> >> >> At 11:44 PM 10/23/2005, you wrote: >> >> >>> Yes, tried wep and wap. >>> >>> >>> At 11:42 PM 10/23/2005, you wrote: >>> >>> >>>> When you set up the network on their PC, did you specify encryption >>>> or any other password? >>>> >>>> On Oct 23, 2005, at 11:37 PM, Thomas McDermott Jr wrote: >>>> >>>> >>>> >>>>> Good evening, >>>>> Have been trying to figure out this issue and haven't been >>>>> able >>>>> to find a solution.
