Sounds like you have an external case for 3.5" or 5.25" drives. There  
are small external cases specifically for laptop drives. They tend to  
be quite inexpensive, especially the USB only kind. The two I have  
were free after rebates, but didn't come with power supplies - which  
you may or may not need depending on how much power your older drive  
needs.
