[X-Newbies] blinking folder window?

Hi
have a macbook running 10.5.

When I open up a new finder window, it blink or flashes for the first second or two..  Same for when I open up the application folder it blinks or flashes two or three times for the first second or two.

Can anyone tell me what this is about?
