Proxy Authentication ?

I am trying to enable Proxy authentication in my Apache Proxy.

I am using auth_mod... but Apache do not starts.
http://...apache/howto/auth.html

I added:

AuthType Basic
AuthName "By Invitation Only"
AuthUserFile /etc/httpd/passwords
Require user username

I added these lines in http_macosxserver.conf.
I found also a mod called apple_auth_mod. What is this and how this 
works?
