Yes, frustrating - and no help via "softwareupdate -h" or the like, 
either. Be nice to have a little something...

It is in the Admin manual (PDF) though (p600, in the new 10.2.3 
edition); along with the other command line admin tools - handy to 
skim through at least once. See p589-590 for a list.
