Ah, I was calling them XServe and XRaid

But it seems that Apple calls them 'XServe' and 'XServe Raid'

These are two different boxes.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------
The XServe takes max of 4 disks, raid 0,1 or unraided. and is a server.
Software raid only - not hardware raid
raid does not do auto-rebuild.
1-U unit
---------------------------------------------------------------------------

The XServe Raid, is a raid array - and is not a server.
hold up to 14 disks, does raid 0,1,5,10,50.
Raid 0,1,5 as hardware raid, 10,50 as software raid.
Disks are hot swappable.
4-U unit

Hardware raid should be able to do auto rebuild.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Look at the pics of the web site - they are different

http://www.apple.com/xserve/
http://www.apple.com/xserve/raid/

Optimally, you would connect to two together.

	- Hope that's clearer.
