[X-Unix] MySQL Installtion

Hey 
   Has anyone here had a successful MySQL installtion on Mac OS X
10.3.9??  I keep on getting the "Can't connect to tmp Sock" error...Do I
need to buy new socks or what? It only happens when I reboot after a
clean install of MySQL. Tho it does work when I have the server version
installed, but not the OS  any ideas??? Thanks!
