That's good in general but not so helpful for jpegs: a) Some apps store previews in the resource fork which blows up the archive size, and b) the previews show up as separate files to the receiver of the archive who is not running Panther. You can either remove the resource forks / previews with the standard set of tools out there (GraphicConverter, PhotoToolCM, ...) Or use an archiver that ignores resource forks in the first place (CleanArchiver, ...)
