Historically that was a true statement. However, in Tiger, plist files ARE now binary (compiled, if you will) for speed reasons. They can be converted to text easily, and text plist files are read just as easily as the binary ones. While any plist file can be created with a text editor. If it is short enough, no performance hit occurs. However, longer files, such as those with state information, can be quite large and can involve significant performance hits. T.T.F.N. William H.
