[X-Unix] aterm transparency

Dear All,

I'm having a little trouble turning on transparency in aterm.
I'm running fluxbox under X in rooted mode on 10.3.9.
After installing aterm and adding aterm*transparent:true in .Xdefaults, 
starting aterm -tr just gives me a window with a black background.

Is there anything else I should be doing to get this to work properly?
