[X-Unix] "open" command syntax?

I'm using 10.3.9 with firefox as my default browser.

"open -a mozilla"  opens mozilla

BUT "open -a mozilla http://google.com" opens firefox


QUESTION: how do I open a url in mozilla from the commandline?
