In the first or two after I installed Mavericks, I had an surprising experience like the one illustrated in this screenshot: http://i.imgur.com/ZMpaBsC.png I think this happened to me when I was trying to run an md5 or diff on a file - it wasn't the `gcc` command that caused the dialogue box to open, but something else. I just allowed Xcode to install, and I think plutil was installed as part of Xcode. Stroller.
