I second that question. I've encountered this exact problem when trying to boot up from an internal drive that I had CCC'd from an external firewire drive. The only thing I found that worked was to erase the internal HD, copy everything *but* the System folder and then install 10.3 on the internal drive from the Apple CD. Sheesh. ------------- On Aug 3, 2004, at 4:35 PM, Andy Hannen wrote: A friend tried to add a new user account in his newly, panther, upgraded iBook. I don't know exactly what he did but now, when restarted or cold booted, the start-up progress bar stays at "Login Window Starting" for ever! (At least overnight). Starting up in "safe" mode leaves you hanging in the same place. Can anyone suggest anything? Are there any "Single User" commands that would bypass the login window? Doing "fsck" says everything's ok Andy
