Go to 10.3-factory, maybe the 10.3.6 update (from the link in Mr Wilkin's post) & set the Software Update preference to "never". Your yl can have the festive machine and can give you a shout in a few weeks; then she can enable software update & get the 10.3.42 update which resolves this, Stroller.
