So, if you have installed Panther, journaling is probably already turned on. There don't seem to be any downsides to journaling. Any speed hit is barely noticeable in Panther. The advantage is that if your Mac suffers a kernel panic, or there is a power failure, your Mac will repair itself automatically on restart. There are no "settings" for you to fool with other than on/off in Disk Utility. Randy B.
