When using Toast, set it to burn at 1x and increase the size of the 
cache. Do you have enough RAM to keep enough data cached in RAM (not 
too many other things running?). Also, I know Toast used to have a way 
to do a "test" burn that didn't actually burn the disk but verified 
that your system could keep pace. I don't know if the newer versions 
still do this or not but it would be a good thing to try.

Also make sure things like Energy Saver and the screen saver are off 
(screen saver always seemed to kill my burns).
