I believe Windows Media Audio files are .wma, not .wmv. The Windows version of iTunes can convert unprotected .wma files in order to import them into the Library. The Mac version, however, cannot. I don't know why, exactly, but I'm guessing it's due to the lack of parity between the Mac and Windows versions of Windows Media Player.
