Photoshop should allow you to set the Scratch Disks. At work I use Photoshop 6 on OS 9.22 (OSX soon!) and under Photoshop's preferences are settings for "Plugins and Scratch Disks." Just set the Scratch Disks to your OSX volume and you shouldn't have to repartition or anything.
