A few hours ago I trolled Google and found this link. Wasn't sure how 
to drive Terminal but fially got it to work and hey presto, the phone 
now sync's! So whoever is interested can go to that link and follow 
that advice and solve their problems. I had 578 names and addresses and 
the thought of loosing all that data was too much for me. Now I can 
continue my love affair with this phone.
