Richard,

They're not referring to that.  Bookmarks are stored with the file on 
the iPod.  You could stop half way through file # 3 of a 10 file audio 
book, switch to some music and play that for days, then come back...and 
when you start playing file #3 again, it will pick up where you left 
off.
