The index tables may be corrupted, or, worse, the disk may be corrupted 
(but I don't think the latter is likely). I'd suggest first checking 
the integrity of the disk (just to be on the safe side), and then 
rebuilding the mailboxes. In Mail.app, select each individual mailbox, 
and choose Mailbox > Rebuild.
