Although I have not yet purchased tiger - personally I am looking forward to
using " smart folders " ( part of spotlight - correct?)

The first smart folder that I will make will have the criteria -  "files
modified today" ... -  then I can easily find - with no effort - everything
I have been recently working on that day... ( and other smart folders like
that)

... Have you tried anything like this yet?
