[X4U] LaCie Hard Drive problem

Did you erase it while having the volume (at the indented level in Disk Utility) selected or the drive (at the unindented level in Disk Utility)? The volume level will have the current name of the partition as its label, while the drive level will have the description of the drive as its label. You should erase it at the drive level, not the volume level.

By the way, what does the drive description say as to its size?
