Another option is an old UNIX trick that puts passwords and usernames in a filed .netrc (Note the leading dot) in your home directory. Make the file readable and editable by yourself only (mode 600). Now the -n option in ftp and curl will pick off required passwords from there. Yeah. It's not as secure as the keychain but for a machine that's not directly on the internet or in a local network with unknown, to you, users. it's good enough and one hell of a lot simpler.
