AppleCare made me the same offer on my 17" PowerBook one month ago (user replacement of failed hard disk). I had other issues so sent the machine in, but could have swapped the drive if I had wanted to. YMMV, I'm sure, depending on how convincing you sound and who you get when you call. My advice still stands: Samantha should call Apple and ask about her situation *specifically*. -Linda
