Thanks for the info, Nancy. What a nightmare this migration has been. I've spent the better part of the day attempting to get this done. Never could get the boot disk on the G4 to show in firewire mode, though another G4 internal and an external drive did. Finally ended up buying SuperDuper, and reversing the process - using the G5 as the target disk. I also ran the 10.3.8 combo updater on the disk after that. Even that didn't resolve the problems, and some files that were cloned were aliases. So, I'm now using CCC to try, try again. This should have been simple, and I'm pretty experienced (having previously worked as a Mac consultant). Nothing has worked as it should have. Wonder why the boot disk wouldn't show? All I can figure is that it's not the original drive that came with the G4, which may have some bearing on the problem. Thanks for all the info everyone has provided. Jerry
