You do not have to do anything except place the slides in the carrier 
designated for the cardboard holders. It is just like putting them in a 
projector. There is an aluminum carrier for film strips another for 
slides, and  one for larger negatives. These are automatically 
recognized, making it surprisingly easy and fast to scan the photos.
