    c.      If you don't want to let the device shuffle your music, you can
shut off the shuffle function with a slider on the back - then it will play
your music in the order of your playlist. This approach saved Apple the cost
of adding a display to the device - since you can't choose a particular
title, there's no need to see them. That's one reason Apple could be so
aggressive in pricing the new devices. The no-choice approach also
circumvents most of the user-interface issues that beset other Flash music
players. 

On the other hand, not being able to jump directly to the song you want
(unless it's first on your playlist) is a definite downside to the Shuffle.
